PADI Advanced Open Water Diver 

Exploration, emotion, experiences … The “Advanced Open Water Diver” AOWD (advanced diving course) deals with all this. And no, you must not be “advanced” to do so – it is designed so you can access directly after the PADI Open Water Diver course.
The Advanced Open Water Diver course helps you increase confidence. It will allow you to build your diving skills so you can feel more comfortable in the water.

It’s a great way to have more dives in your pocket. Meanwhile, you will continue to learn under the supervision of your PADI instructor.

You can earn academic credits with the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course

This course consolidates what you have learned and develops new skills by introducing you to new activities and new ways to have fun with diving. You will polish your techniques doing five adventure dives, namely:

• Underwater navigation
• Deep diving (usually anywhere between 18-30 meters)
• A sample of three adventure dives of your choice

The fun part: your choice

One of the reasons why you will like the Advanced Open Water Diver course is that together with your instructor, you will make a choice of 15 types of adventure dives to finish the course. You can try digital underwater photography, diving in sunken ships, night diving, buoyancy and much more.

Get credits! Each Adventure Dive of the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course can serve as a credit as the first dive of the corresponding PADI specialty course.

Advanced Open Water Diver Online Course

The Advanced Open Water Diver Online course that has already started with the basic information you need from seven of the most popular Adventure Dives (although you, along with your instructor, can choose any Adventure Immersion.)

What will you learn?

The knowledge and techniques you will acquire in the Advanced Open Water Diver course vary according to the interest you have and the adventures you live, but include

• Practical aspects of deep diving,
• Physiological effects of deep diving.
• More ways to use your underwater compass.
• How to navigate using fin swipes, visual referencing and time.
• How to best use your dive computer and the Electronic Recreational Diving PlannerTM (ePIRTM).
• And much, much more, depending on the Adventure Dives you choose.

The diving equipment you will use

You will use all the basic diving equipment including the underwater compass. Depending on which three adventure dives you choose, you can also try the underwater photography equipment, a diving torch, elevating balloons, a diving flag / buoy and other specialized equipment.

The teaching materials you will need

The PADI Adventures in Diving Manual and the DVD provide information on more than 16 types of specialty diving. You will use them as guide books to improve your diving techniques and prepare for new experiences and adventures.

Prerequisites

To do this course you must have:

• The PADI Open Water Diver (or a certification from another training organization that qualifies you)
• 15 years of age (12 for the Junior Advanced Open Water Diver)
